Mixed Media – Stitch – Collage

Explore – Discover – Create

Working with mixed media and stitch can mean a lot of trial and error and a fair amount of frustration but it is also great fun. If you would like to try it, there are many books and many online tutorials to get you started. Or, just sit down with a selection of materials and “play”!

“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try” – Dr. Seuss

The next gallery of images include a series of stitched and beaded works that were created over the past several years.

Monet’s Garden was inspired by one of his paintings – it was created using layers of sheer fabrics, stitch and beads. The other two were really just created by playing with beads, threads in the colour ways.

These last two images could well have been included in the Interpretations collection. “Palm Grove Floor” was inspired by a palm grove in the backyard of our previous home – it consists of crochet and wrapped handmade paper ‘beads’, beads, stitch and needlefelting.
“Aerial of Hill Top” was inspired by a Google Maps aerial image of our 5 acres where we now live. I have used artistic license to depict the changing colours of the trees through the passing seasons. It was created soley of french knots on a fabric and felted background and clusters of beads to represent dew drops, tea tree blossoms and wattle.
